And be not conformed to [the patterns of the darkness of] this world: but be ye transformed [changed, transfigured, metamorphosed] by the renewing of your mind [by being filled with the Light of God], that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (Judg 11:1) Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valour, and he was the son of an harlot: and Gilead begat Jephthah. (Judg 11:2) And Gilead's wife bare him sons; and his wife's sons grew up, and they thrust out Jephthah, and said unto him, Thou shalt not inherit in our father's house; for thou art the son of a strange woman. (Judg 11:3) Then Jephthah fled from his brethren, and dwelt in the land of Tob: and there were gathered vain men to ephthah, and went out with him. (Judg 11:4) And it came to pass in process of time, that the children of Ammon made war against Israel. (Judg 11:5) And it was so, that when the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to fetch Jephthah out of the land of Tob: (Judg 11:1-5) Now Jephthah [he that opens (a type of Jesus Christ)] the Gileadite [Gilead: heap of testimony, heap of witness, mound of stones, rocky region (a type of the cross)] was a mighty man of valour [Jud 6:12; Heb 11:32], and he was the son of an harlot [adultress, whore, fig. to commit idolatry]: and Gilead begat Jephthah [Gilead, now a type of God begat Jephthah]. And Gilead's wife [Israel] bare him sons [half-brothers to Jephthah: a type of mankind, born of the flesh but not of the Spirit]; and his wife's sons grew up [twisted; proud, tower (a people of the night: a twist away of the light)], and they thrust out Jephthah [separation: a type of crucifixion], and said unto him, Thou shalt not inherit [i.e. the vineyard] in our father's house; for thou art the son of a strange woman [another man’s woman /// loitering, procrastinating]. Then Jephthah fled from his brethren [voluntarily gave up His life: a type of death; also a type of us fleeing from unequally yoked men], and dwelt in the land of Tob [good: a type of Heaven]: and there were gathered [gleaned (from the corners): a type of rapture] vain men [emptied of the darkness of this world and filled with the Light of God: 1 Sam 22:1,2] to Jephthah, and went out with him [to war with the enemy: a type of evangelizing, preaching the word of God]. And it came to pass in process of time [up to 18 years of oppressing tribulation by the Ammonites have passed], that the children of Ammon made war against Israel. And it was so, that when the children of Ammon made war against Israel [this entire phrase is emphasized by exact repetition 2 times (a Hebrew writing convention), and in context indicates great tribulation], the elders of Gilead went to fetch Jephthah out of the land of Tob [a type of crying out to the Lord for deliverance: Jud 6:6]: 1. grew up = Heb: to twist, to be (make) large (in pride):--boast, be great, grow (up), increase, lift up, magnify, proudly [spoken], tower. 2. (Gen 1:1-5) In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day [to be hot; a day, as the warm hours], and the darkness he called Night [a twist (away of the light), i.e. night; fig. adversity (cold)]. And the evening and the morning were the first day. 3. darkness = Heb: the dark; hence (lit.) darkness; fig. misery, destruction, death, ignorance, sorrow, wickedness:--dark (-ness), night, obscurity. 4. light = Heb: illumination or luminary (in every sense, including lightning, happiness, etc.):--bright, clear, + day, light (-ning), morning, sun /// to be (make) luminous:--X break of day, glorious, kindle, (be, en-, give, show) light (-en, -ened), set on fire, shine. 5. Commentary: “Tower” also represents the pride of the Israelite men of Penuel. Gideon “beat down the tower of Penuel, and slew the men of the city” (Judg 8:17) for refusing to support his army of 10,000 warriors who were then in hot pursuit of the Midianite (demonic) host which had invaded the land (a type of us). The 10,000 warriors of Gideon’s army were emptied of the darkness of this world and filled with the Light of God (Judg 8:8-17). 6. (Judg 11:3) And there were gathered [gleaned (from the corners): a type of rapture] vain men [men emptied of the darkness of this world and filled with the Light of God] to Jephthah [Jesus Christ], and went out with him [to war with the enemy: a type of evangelizing, preaching the word of God].
