ALL ABOUT YOU: GIDEON, CHAPTER 19 THE
AXE HEAD
02-22-04 THE
TRIBULATION (Judg
6:1-6) And
the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD delivered
them into the hand of Midian seven
years. And the hand of Midian prevailed
against Israel [Dan 7:21,25; 8:24;
Rev 13:7]: and because of the Midianites the children of Israel
made them the dens which are in the mountains, and caves, and strong holds.
And so it was, when Israel had sown,
that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the children of the east,
even they came up against them; And they encamped against them, and destroyed
the increase of the earth, till thou come unto Gaza, and left no
sustenance for Israel, neither sheep, nor ox, nor ass. For they came up
with their cattle and their tents, and they came as grasshoppers for
multitude; for both they and their camels were without number: and
they entered into the land to destroy it. And Israel was
greatly impoverished
[to slacken or be feeble; fig. to be oppressed:--bring low, dry up, be
emptied, be not equal, fail, be impoverished, be made thin] because of the
Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the LORD. 1.
(Rev 1:9) I John,
who also am your brother, and
companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ,
was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the
testimony of Jesus Christ. 2.
(John 16:33) These things
I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace.
In the world ye shall have tribulation [x19]:
but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. 3.
(1 John 2:18,19) Little
children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist
shall come, even now are there many
antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time
[the entire period between the fist and second comings of Christ]. They
went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of
us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but
they went out, that they might be made manifest [rendered
apparent] that they were not all of us. 4.
antichrist = Gk: antichristos;
instead of or against anti
the anointed one christos;
an opponent of the Messiah. /// John views the rise of those who deny the
truth of Christ from within the Christian Community as an indication of
the beginning of the end of all things. “Antichrists” most likely means
those who seek to take the place of Christ. This is the “spirit of
antichrist” (1 John 4:3) which refers to demonic behind anti-Christian
teaching and activity. (Judg
7:1) Then Jerubbaal, who
is Gideon, and all the people that
were with him, rose up early, and pitched [encamped]
beside the well of Harod: so that the host of the Midianites
[“and the Amalekites, and the children of the east” Jud 6:3] were on
the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh,
in the valley [“of Jezreel”
Jud 6:33 - Armageddon]. 1.
Jerubbaal = Heb: Baal will contend (with) /// to toss, i.e. grapple;
mostly fig. to wrangle, i.e. hold a controversy; (by impl.) to
defend:--adversary, chide, complain, contend, debate, X ever, X lay wait,
plead, rebuke, strive, X thoroughly. 2.
Gideon = Heb: feller (i.e. warrior) /// to
fell a tree; gen. to destroy anything:--cut (asunder, in sunder, down,
off), hew down. [separate] 3.
(Mat 3:10,11) And now also
the ax is laid unto the root of the
trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn
down, and cast into the fire. I indeed baptize you with water unto
repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am
not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: 4.
(2 Ki 6:1-7) And the sons
of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell
with thee is too strait [narrow]
for us. Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan [the
descender], and take thence every man a beam [a
rafter (wood)], and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And
he answered, Go ye. And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy
servants. And he answered, I will go. So he went with them. And when they came
to Jordan, they cut down wood. But
as one was felling a beam, the ax
head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it
was borrowed. And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he showed him
the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and
the iron did swim. Therefore said he, Take
it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it. 5.
(Mat 16:24) Then said
Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself,
and take up his cross, and follow
me. |
