(Judg 5:31)  So let all thine enemies perish, O LORD: but let them that love him be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might. And the land had rest forty years.

A TIME CONSUMMATING IN GREAT TRIBULATION FOR GOD’S CHOSEN PEOPLE

(Judg 6:1-6)  And the children of Israel did evil [wickedness] in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years [i.e. tribulation]. And the hand [power] of Midian prevailed against Israel: and because of the Midianites the children of Israel made them the dens which are in the mountains, and caves, and strong holds. And so it was, when Israel had sown [“The seed is the word of God.” Luke 8:11], that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites [descendants of Esau – lust of the flesh], and the children of the east [Arabians], even they came up against them; And they encamped against them, and destroyed the increase of the earth, till thou come unto Gaza, and left no sustenance [for the preservation of life, i.e. the quick: victuals /// to live, revive: keep alive, save, make whole] for Israel, neither sheep, nor ox, nor ass. For they came up with their cattle and their tents, and they came as grasshoppers [locusts] for multitude; for both they and their camels were without number: and they entered into the land [i.e. the Body of Christ] to destroy it [How?]. And Israel [he will rule as God] was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the LORD.

1.       Midian = Heb: a son of Abraham; also his country and (collect.) his descend /// a contest or quarrel: brawling, contention (-ous), discord, strife /// to rule; to judge; also to strive: contend, execute (judgment), minister judgment, plead (the cause), at strife, strive.

2.       “children of the east”: Arabians = Heb: in the fig. sense of sterility; Arab (i.e. Arabia), (through the idea of covering with a texture); to grow dusky at sundown: be darkened, (toward) evening. [darkness]

3.       (Mark 4:26-28)  And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground [“the word that was sown in their hearts” Mark 4:15];  And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.  For the earth [land (i.e. woman)] bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade [little children], then the ear [young men], after that the full corn [fathers] in the ear. [1 John 2:12-14]

4.       Watch – beware of three things: evil men, the parable of the tares – Mat 13:24-30; evil spirits, the birds of the air - Mat 13:31,32; evil doctrines, leaven - Mat 13:33. [delivered 09-28-03]

5.       (Mark 4:18,19)  And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, And the cares [distractions] of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things [“cares and riches and pleasures of this life” Luke 8:14] entering in, choke the word [strangle completely /// take by the throat], and it becometh unfruitful [“and bring no fruit to perfection” Luke 8:14].

6.       impoverished = Heb: to slacken or be feeble; fig. to be oppressed: bring low, dry up, be emptied, be not equal, fail, be impoverished, be made thin. [X greatly]

7.       (1 Cor 11:29,30)  For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily [irreverently – the Midianite host], eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body [i.e. the Bible: John 1:14]. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep [to put to sleep, to slumber; fig. to decease: fall asleep, be dead]. [Why?]

8.       weak = Gk: to be feeble (in any sense): be diseased, impotent, be sick, be made weak /// strengthless. [i.e. impoverished, X greatly]

AND THE LORD SENT A PROPHET TO PREPARE HIS DISOBEDIENT CHILDREN FOR THE COMING OF A SAVIOUR (GIDEON – IN TYPE)

(Judg 6:7-10)  And it came to pass, when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD because of the Midianites, That the LORD sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, which said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought you up [ascend up] from Egypt [i.e. the land of the unsaved], and brought you forth [carried you (on eagles’ wings)] out of the house of bondage; And I delivered you [snatched away, plucked, rescued, saved] out of the hand [power] of the Egyptians, and out of the hand [power] of all that oppressed you, and drave [drove] them out from before you, and gave you their land [i.e. the American Indians in type]; And I said unto you, I am the LORD your God; fear not the gods of the Amorites [a Canaanite tribe: “Cursed be Canaan” a son of Ham: Gen 9:25], in whose land ye dwell: but ye have not obeyed my voice [therefore you should immediately do what?].

1.       (Luke 3:3,4)  And he [John the Baptist – a prophet] came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance [reversal: to think differently] for the remission of sins [pardon: deliverance, forgiveness]; As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet [Isa 40:3-5], saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness [lonesome, i.e. (by impl.) waste: desert, desolate, solitary, wilderness], Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight [(lit.) level, or (fig.) true].

2.       (Luke 3:5,6)  Every valley [depression] shall be filled [be complete, perfect], and every mountain and hill [high place: pride - manic] shall be brought low [to depress; fig. to humiliate (in condition or heart): abase, bring low, humble (self)]; and the crooked [warped, i.e. winding; fig. perverse] shall be made straight [(lit.) level, or (fig.) true], and the rough ways [(as if jagged by rents); uneven, rocky (reefy)] shall be made smooth [level]; And all flesh shall see [visual, i.e. but not necessarily participate in] the salvation of God.

3.       (Luke 13:28,29)  There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.  And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.

4.       (Exo 19:4-6)  Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians [i.e. the ten miraculous judgments (Exo 7-12) vs. the ten miraculous commandments (Exo 20)], and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself [i.e. unto the foot of mount Sinai, unto the foot of the cross]. Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure [Psa 135:4] unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

5.       (1 Pet 2:9,10)  But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth [publish, celebrate /// (to bring tidings); a messenger; angel] the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

Amen
