OUR PRESENT LUKEWARM CHURCH IS THE PRODIGAL SON, SAUL’S CHURCH

(1 Sam 17:15-18)  But David went and returned from Saul to feed his father's sheep at Bethlehem. And the Philistine [Goliath] drew near morning and evening [times of the daily sacrifices in the Tabernacle], and presented himself [for their acceptance, symbolically as their false swine (pig) sacrifice upon the brasen altar (cross) in place of the Lamb of God] forty days [the number of testing, i.e. forty years “in the church in the wilderness” Acts 7:38]. And Jesse said unto David his son, Take now for thy brethren an ephah of this parched corn, and these ten loaves, and run to the camp to thy brethren; And carry these ten cheeses unto the captain of their thousand, and look how thy brethren fare, and take their pledge.

1.       parched corn = Heb: roasted ears of grain: parched corn /// (through the idea of shrinkage by heat); to toast, i.e. scorch partially or slowly: dried, loathsome, parch, roast.

2.       God the Father: (Heb 12:29)  For our God is a consuming fire. [Deut 4:24; 9:3]

3.       ten loaves = Heb: food (for man or beast), espec. bread, or grain.

4.       God the Son: (John 6:38)  I am that bread of life. [John 6:35]

5.       ten cheeses = Heb: incisure or incised; hence a threshing-sledge (with sharp teeth): also a slice (as cut): + cheese, harrow /// to point sharply, i.e. (lit.) to wound; fig. to be alert, to decide.

6.       incisive = Dict: 1. penetrating or biting. 2. sharp; keen; acute. 3. adapted for cutting: the incisive teeth.

7.       God the Holy Spirit: (2 Tim 2:15)  Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing [to make a straight cut, i.e. (fig.) to dissect (expound) correctly (the divine message)] the word of truth. [John 16:13; Heb 4:12; Eph 6:17]

What this latter Scripture and context seem to be prophetically saying is that the Second Advent or Second Coming of David (Jesus Christ) shall occur during a time of great spiritual famine in the Israelite camp, symbolizing the church body in apostasy, being headed and led by King Saul: “But the spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.” (1 Sam 16:14). At the end of that testing time, Father God (Jesse) shall send again His triune self, in the form of His Word Jesus Christ (John 1:14) and seed (Luke 8:11) typified by David, as the nourishing food of life for the saved believers who are “hot” (Rev 3:16) for God. At the same time, the unsaved indecisive unconvinced for God who are the “lukewarm” Israelite armies (the Laodicean church universal: the prodigal son), and the “cold” Philistines will be experiencing spiritual famine because they will be feeding only upon “the husks [empty seed pods] that the [Philistine] swine did eat” (Luke 15:16).

1.       (Rev 3:14-22)  And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans [a people for judgment] write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm [i.e. indecisive, unconvinced], and neither cold nor hot, I will spue [vomit] thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire [i.e. the pure word of God], that thou mayest be rich [in Heaven]; and white raiment [“And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.” Rev 19:8], that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent [to think differently]. Behold, I stand at the door [of your heart], and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me [parched corn, ten loaves, ten cheeses]. To him that overcometh [who?] will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

2.       (Luke 15:11-16)  And he said, A certain man had two sons [Jew and Christian]: And the younger of them [Christian] said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living [life (Old Testament to Jew and New Testament to Christian: Law and Grace)]. And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living [“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Heb 11:1]. And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want. And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks [empty seed pods] that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.

WALKING BY SIGHT

This deplorable circumstance is evidenced by the fact that Goliath (“the wind boisterous” Mat 14:30) “presented himself” (religious connotations) for forty days (testing) as a living substitute (but an empty seed pod) for the dead sacrificial Lamb of God to the Israelites (church), for their acceptance. However, while this period of testing was occurring, the Word of God (Jesus Christ, typified by David), who is the seed of God, was absent from the Israelites (church in apostasy), and far away in Bethlehem, obediently feeding his Father’s sheep (John 21:15-17). Please note that during this time of testing, Saul and the Israelites were not listening to nor eating the Word of God (the seed of life) at all, for David was not there among them, He was in Bethlehem (house of bread). But King Saul and the Israelites (church) were walking by sight, listening to, watching, interacting with, and altogether focusing and feeding upon that pig Goliath (typifying the world, personified by television), i.e. “the husks [empty seed pods] that the [Philistine] swine did eat.”

1.       (Amos 8:11,12)  Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.

2.       (2 Th 2:6-12)  And now ye know what withholdeth [is restraining (??)] that he might be revealed in his time. For the mystery of iniquity [lawlessness] doth already work: only he who now letteth [restrains] will let [restrain], until he [He] be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked be revealed [Goliath: the head of the body of Satanically inspired 666 men; six cubits in height, six pieces of armor, six hundred shekels of iron], whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them [Who?? the unsaved “lukewarm” Israelites (professing Christians) whom Jesus Christ shall “spue” out of His mouth, and the unsaved “cold” Philistines] strong delusion, that they should believe a lie [personified by Goliath]: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Amen
