(Psa 2:7-9) I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Thou shalt break them [to spoil (lit. by breaking to pieces)] with a rod of iron [judgment]; thou shalt dash them in pieces [scatter them] like a potter's vessel. 1. rod = Heb: to branch off, a scion, i.e. (lit.) a stick (for punishing, writing, fighting, ruling, walking, etc.) or (fig.) a clan:-- X correction, dart, rod, sceptre, staff, tribe. 2. (Lev 26:18-20) And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you [chastise, lit. (with blows) or fig. (with words); hence to instruct:--correct, instruct, reform, teach] seven times more for your sins. And I will break [break (in pieces), crush] the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass: And your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits. 3. (Isa 64:8) But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.
