GLORY AND EXCEEDING JOY

The height of our revelations depends upon the correctness of our doctrines (our building blocks)

(Jude 1:1,2)  Jude, the servant [Gk: slave: bond man] of Jesus Christ, and brother of James [who was brother to Jesus], to them that are sanctified [Gk: made holy, purified, consecrated] by God the Father, and preserved [Gk: watched, guarded] in Jesus Christ, and called [Gk: invited: appointed]: Mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied [Gk: increased: abound].

(Jude 1:3-4)  Beloved, when I gave all diligence [Gk: speed, eagerness] to write unto you of the common salvation [“great salvation” Heb 2:3; “eternal salvation” Heb 5:9], it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for [Gk: struggle, fight for] the faith which was once delivered [in the past] unto the saints. For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness [unrestrained vice or sexual freedom], and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

(Jude 1:5-9)  I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not. And the angels which kept not their first estate [i.e., Heaven], but left their own habitation, he hath reserved [Gk: held fast] in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. Even as Sodom [Gk: to scorch, burnt district] [false doctrine] and Gomorrha [Gk: to bind sheaves, make merchandise of] [false works], and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication [Gk: to be utterly unchaste], and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile [Gk: sully, taint, contaminate] the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities. Yet Michael the archangel [Gk: a chief angel], when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst [Gk: dared] not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

1.     (1 Tim 4:1,2)  Now the Spirit speaketh expressly [Gk: distinctly], that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy [Gk: actors acting under a feigned part, deceiving]; having their conscience seared [Gk: branded (cauterized), rendered unsensitive] with a hot iron;

(Jude 1:10-13)  But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute [Gk: irrational: unreasonable] beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves [Gk: (to pine or waste), shrivel or wither, spoil, ruin, deprave: defile, destroy]. Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain [pride and self-righteousness], and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying [Gk: dispute, disobedience] of Core [Korah, a Levite who coveted the offices of Moses and Aaron]. These are spots in your feasts of charity [Gk: agape; sacrificial love], when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water [i.e., the Holy Spirit], carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.

1.     (Psa 111:10)  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

2.     (Pro 1:7) The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

(Jude 1:14-16)  And Enoch also [“And Enoch walked with God” Gen 5:22], the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling [Gk: bulging over] words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage [Gk: usefulness: profit].

(Jude 1:17-21)  But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; How that they told you there should be mockers [Gk: scoffers] in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit. But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

1.     (1 John 2:19)  They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest [Gk: rendered apparent] that they were not all of us.

(Jude 1:22,23)  And of some have compassion [Gk: pity, mercy], making a difference: And others save [Gk: deliver or protect: heal, preserve, make whole] with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted [Gk: stained or blemished, fig. defected, disgraced] by the flesh.

(Jude 1:24,25)  Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling [Gk: without sin, stumbling], and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
