HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF… AND WE CALL THAT REPETITION TYPES AND SHADOWS

The depth of our revelations depends upon the correctness of our doctrine
(Gen 10:8-10) And Cush [a son of Ham – a bad guy] begat Nimrod [Heb: let us revolt; rebellion; valiant, strong]: he began [Heb: to bore; fig. to profane: defile, pollute, wound] to be a mighty one in the earth. He was a mighty hunter [Heb: to chase, to catch] before the LORD: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD. And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel [Heb: confusion], and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar [Heb: a plain in Babylon, now identified as Iraq].
mighty = Heb: powerful; warrior, tyrant: champion, chief, giant, strong, valiant.
Commentary: the phrase “before the LORD” repeated twice is a Hebrew writing convention indicating great emphasis, and “mighty” describing Nimrod’s hunting prowess is repeated three times. What possible hunting activity would invariably receive the LORD’S attention? Answer: the hunting of men. The phrase “before the LORD” within this context has the strong connotation that Nimrod was a mighty hunter of men. [Ishmael and Esau are the other two biblically mentioned (evil) hunters]
(Gen 11:1-4) And [after the flood] the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick [Heb: a brick /// to become white] [displaying innocence], and burn them [burn the water (of the Holy Spirit) out] thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime [Heb: bitumen (tar)] had they for mortar [Heb: water and earth, mire or clay]. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city [Heb: a city (a place guarded by watch)] and a tower [Heb: a tower; a rostrum: castle, pulpit] [an altar], whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name [pride, exalting themselves upward], lest we be scattered abroad [humiliated and humbled] upon the face of the whole earth.
slime = Dict: 1. thin, glutinous [Dict: gluey] mud. 2. any ropy or viscous [Dict: sticky, adhesive] liquid matter, esp. of a foul or offensive kind. 3. a viscous secretion of animal or vegetable origin.
Commentary: the building elements (blocks of understanding) necessary to “reach unto heaven” are God given doctrines, original precepts from God, and not products such as bricks (false doctrines) that man has lifted up his tools upon, for in building an altar to “reach unto heaven” “if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it.” (Exo 20:25). That is, you have changed the doctrine.
(Deu 4:2) Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought [Heb: scrape off; shave, remove, lessen or withhold: restrain, make small] from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.
(Rev 22:18,19) For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
(Mat 5:14) Ye are the light [Gk: illumination] of the world [Gk: kosmos; “cosmos” (universe)]. A city [of light] that is set on an [humble] hill cannot be hid.
(Gen 11:5,6) And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower [Heb: a tower; a rostrum: castle, pulpit] [altar], which the children of men builded. And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin [Heb: to bore; fig. to profane: defile, pollute, wound] to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do [note the awesome latent power (miracles) dormant in the latter thought].
(Gen 6:5,6) And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
(2 Cor 10:4-6) (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal [Gk: fleshly], but mighty [but spiritual] through God [for we have “power with God” (Gen 32:28; Hosea 12:3)] to the pulling down of strong holds [Gk: to fortify; holding safely: a castle (fig. arguments)] [i.e., towers];) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
(Gen 11:7-9) Go to, let us go down, and there confound [Heb: mix] their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. Therefore is the name of it called Babel [Heb: confusion]; because the LORD did there confound [Heb: mix] the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF
Commentary: the tower of Babel = History repeats itself. When “the whole earth was of one language” just as modern “computer-ese” is one language that all nations share today, mankind attempted a co-ordinated effort, without incorporating the building blocks of the LORD’s doctrines, but symbolically by employing man-made brick building blocks (polluted doctrines) rather than unhewn stones (perfect doctrines), to “reach unto heaven, and let us make us a name” (exalting national pride). Effectively, Nimrod’s delusional minions were standing on and building with bricks of shifting sand rather than stone. Their completely idolatrous effort was judged by God; He “confounded [Heb: mixed] their language” and “scattered them abroad” resulting in worldwide confusion and total regression back into the primitive dark ages of barbarianism, the oxymoron of an unstructured civilization, unsaved peoples fearfully dragging out an impossibly miserable living in the dens and caves of a severely wounded wilderness. That is exactly the same result that the looming, now inevitable, nuclear war will soon have, i.e., the wrath of God. History repeats itself. Fortunately, the promise that I have received from Father God is that I shall not experience this incredible savagery, but shall see it only through my spiritual eyes. “Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.” (Psa 91:8). Oh yes… and you can have that “promise” too. God bless you.
Amen
