THE DAY OF THE LORD COMETH (EXPECT IT, WELCOME IT)

(2 Thes 2:1,2) Now we beseech you, brethren [all born-again children of God] [1], by the [Second] coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him [2], That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit , nor by word, nor by letter as from us [3], as that the day of Christ is at hand [“has already come” NIV].

  1. (John 3:3-5) Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see [a] the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water [the word of God (Gen 1:2; Eph 5:26)] and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

    1. see = Gk: properly to see (lit. or fig.); to know: - be aware, behold, consider, have knowledge, look (on), perceive, see, be sure, tell, understand.

  2. (1 Thes 4:17) Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them [“the dead in Christ” 1 Thes 4:16] in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

  3. (2 Thes 2:1 Amplified Bible) But relative to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Messiah, and our gathering together to [meet] Him, we beg you, brethren, (2 Thes 2:2) Not to allow your minds to be quickly unsettled or disturbed or kept excited or alarmed, whether it be by some [pretended] revelation of [the] Spirit or by word or by letter [alleged to be] from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has [already] arrived and is here.


LET NO MAN DECEIVE YOU

(2 Thes 2:3,4) Let no man deceive you by any means [“Take heed that no man deceive you.” Mat 24:4]: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first [Gk: a defection from the truth (“apostasy”) /// something separative, divorce] [1,2,2a], and that man of sin be revealed [Gk: to take off the cover, disclosed], the son of perdition [Gk: damnation]; Who opposeth [himself] and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God [3] sitteth in the temple of God [exemplifying total control] [4,5], shewing [Gk: to show off, exhibit] himself that he is God.

  1. Commentary: A primary sign (indicator) that the return of Christ Jesus is imminent is that The Antichrist is being rapidly revealed to Christians.

  2. (Mat 13:33) Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman [“being deceived” (1 Tim 2:14 & Gen 3:6) was the original and first transgressor, and then and now is “the weaker vessel” (1 Pet 3:7)] took, and hid [deception] in three measures of meal [ground-up seed, i.e., God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit], till the whole [of the bread of God, of the kingdom of heaven on earth] was leavened [then the Lord Jesus Christ will return and separate His sheep (rapture) from the goats (Mat 24:31-46; 2 Thes 2:5-7)].

    1. Commentary: leaven = yeast that puffs up (pride) and presents a false picture (hypocrisy), a strong symbol of false doctrine (Mat 16:11,12).

  3. (Isa 14:14) I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

  4. (1 Cor 3:16) Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

  5. Commentary: The fallen angel (spirit) formerly named Lucifer, now named Satan, not being omniscient, dwells only in one person at a time, and that by Satan’s choice, specifically in the then current Antichrist (Genghis Khan, Herod, Hitler, Stalin, etc.). Satan’s demons (fallen angels, unclean spirits, devils) dwell in the remaining unsaved millions.


AFTER THE RAPTURE (TRANSLATION INTO HEAVENLY) OF THE BODY OF CHRIST

(2 Thes 2:5-7) Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? And now ye know what [the Body of Christ] withholdeth [Gk: holds (down, fast, back)] [“is restraining” NKJV] that he [Antichrist] might be revealed [Gk: to take the cover off, disclosed] in his [appointed] time. For the mystery of iniquity [Gk: illegality /// unrighteousness] doth already [Gk: even now] work [1]: only he [the Body of Christ] who now letteth [“restrains” NKJV] will let [restrain], until he [the Body of Christ] be taken out of the way [Gk: of the middle: from among (them)] [i.e., raptured (1 Thes 4:13-18)].

  1. Commentary: “iniquity doth already work” even now under the presence of our godly restraints, so how much more shall “iniquity” work in this world after the Body of Christ (the restrainer) is “taken out of the way” and the Antichrist head of the body (a man, the chief worker of iniquity) is fully loosed and fully able to work iniquity. Antichrist shall appear, shall be fully revealed to Christians only while unsaved humanity shall remain deceived. Antichrist is Satan’s imitation counterfeit of Christ riding and controlling the reins of the white [symbol of sinless purity] horse [symbol of great power] of strong delusion (2 Thes 2:11; Rev 6:1,2) who fully appears as the Body of Christ is raptured (drawn up, “taken out of the way”). Corporate body (Christ) against corporate body (Antichrist).


THEN SHALL THAT WICKED BE REVEALED

(2 Thes 2:8-12) And then [after our rapture] shall that Wicked [Gk: lawless: without law] be revealed [Gk: to take off the cover, disclosed], whom the Lord shall consume [Gk: destroy] with the spirit of his mouth [1], and shall destroy [Gk: render entirely idle (useless): vanish away, make void] with the brightness [Light vs. darkness] of his [Second] coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan [The Antichrist within whom Satan dwells] with all power and signs [Gk: indications] and lying wonders, And with all [the] deceivableness of unrighteousness [2] in them that perish [Gk: are destroyed fully]; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved [3]. And for this cause [What cause?] God shall send them strong delusion [Gk: fraudulence: deception, error /// by an impostor (Rev 6:1,2) or misleader, deceiver, seducer], that they should believe a lie [Gk: falsehood: lying]: That they all might be damned [Gk: condemned, punished] who believed not the truth [who rejected the truth], but had pleasure [Luke 8:14] in unrighteousness [i.e., anything not of God].

  1. (Rev 19:15) And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword [twoedged sword, the logos/rhema word of God (Heb 4:12/Eph 6:17)], that with it he should smite the nations [Gk: heathens]: and he shall rule them [Gk: tend as a shepherd: feed] with a rod of iron [a metal symbolizing the hardest judgment]: and he treadeth the winepress [containing the unsaved] of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

  2. (Luke 8:14) And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked [Gk: strangled completely /// taken by the throat] with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.

  3. (John 12:48) He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words [Gk: rhema (Grace)], hath one that judgeth him: the word [Gk: logos (Law)] that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.


FEAR NOT, FOR YOU HAVE BEEN CHOSEN FOR SALVATION

(2 Thes 2:13,14) But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you [“According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world” Eph 1:4] to salvation through sanctification [Gk: purification] of the Spirit and belief of the truth [justification]: Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory [1,2] of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  1. glory = Gk: glory (as very apparent): - dignity, glorious, honour, praise, worship /// to think.

  2. (Rom 8:18) For I reckon that the sufferings [Gk: hardships or pain: afflictions] of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory [the Christ (the anointing)] which shall be revealed in us [and the antichrist is revealed in them].

IN YOUR PATIENCE POSSESS YE YOUR SOULS (Luke 21:19)

(2 Thes 2:15-17) Therefore, brethren, stand fast [Gk: persevere], and hold [Gk: seize, retain] the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word [teaching, preaching], or our epistle [Gk: written message, letter]. Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation [Gk: comfort] and good hope [Gk: anticipation; expectation: faith] through grace, Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.
