THE GREAT TRIBULATION IS THE DEVIL’S “GREAT WRATH”

(Rev 12:9-13) And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth [Gen 2:7], and his angels [fallen angels, unclean spirits, demons, devils] were cast out with him. And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down [2,000 years ago at the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ], which accused them before our God day and night. And they [the Christ generation (Mat 1:16,17) – 2,000 years through now] overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman [the remaining church] which brought forth the man child [represented by Gideon’s 300 who were “retained” Judg 7:8].

  1. (1 Th 5:9) For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,


THE GREAT TRIBULATION (GREAT FAMINE, i.e., NO FRUIT)

(1 Kings 17:1) And Elijah [Heb: The Lord is My God] the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab [the evil King of the northern kingdom], As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years [through Elijah, God was challenging the power of Jezebel’s god Baal whom they believed controlled the rain and abundant crops], but according to my word.

  1. Gilead = Gk: heap of witness, mass of testimony, mound of stones, rocky region: rolling forever.

  2. Commentary: Gilead is a type and shadow of the cross, more clearly portrayed symbolically as the brasen (brass) altar, which was the first article of furniture encountered as one entered the gate into the compound of the tabernacle of Moses.

  3. (Luke 4:25,26) But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land; But unto none of them was Elijah sent, save [Gk: except] unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon [Gk: catching fish, a fishery], unto a woman that was a widow.

    1. (Amo 8:11) Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:

    2. Sarepta = Gk: refinement /// to fuse (metal), refine (lit. or fig.): melt, purify, purge away.

  4. (James 5:17,18) Elijah was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.


EVEN DURING THE CATASTROPIC GREAT TRIBULATION, THE LORD GOD WILL FEED AND PROTECT HIS SERVANTS BY DIRECTING THE EFFORTS OF THE UNSAVED (THE RAVENS)

(1 Kings 17:2-7) And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward [go deeper into the land of the unsaved, the wilderness], and hide thyself by the brook [Heb: stream] Cherith, that is before [that flows to] Jordan. And it shall be, that thou shalt drink [Heb: imbibe] of the brook [imbibe of the Holy Spirit]; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there. So he went and did [works] according unto the word of the LORD [faith]: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan. And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning [an allusion to the 9:00 am daily sacrifice], and bread and flesh in the evening [an allusion to the 3:00 pm daily sacrifice]; and he drank of the brook [imbibed of the Holy Spirit]. And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain [Word of God] in the land.

  1. Cherith = Heb: a cut /// specifically to covenant (that is, make an alliance or bargain, originally by cutting flesh and passing between the pieces). [a tributary stream in the wilderness flowing from the east to the river Jordan]

  2. Jordan = Heb: the descender. [a type and shadow of the Holy Spirit “And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him” Luke 3:22]

  3. Commentary: ravens = large black birds, about 2 feet long, that voraciously or greedily feed upon their prey which have (Dict.) “from time immemorial been considered a bird of ill omen.”

  4. (Rev 12:6) And the woman [the church] fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days [3 ½ years, “three years and six months” Luke 4:25; James 5:17].

  5. (Rev 12:14) And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle [Father God is the “great eagle” (Exo 19:4; Deut 32:11, etc. etc.) His two wings being the OT and NT of the Bible], that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time [one year], and times [two years], and half a time [6 months], from the face of the serpent. [3 ½ years, “three years and six months” Luke 4:25; James 5:17].


THE ANTICHRIST SHALL “THINK TO CHANGE TIMES AND LAWS”

(Dan 7:23-27) Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces. And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings. And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time [one year] and times [two years] and the dividing of time [six months] [i.e., 3 ½ years, “three years and six months”]. But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end. And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.
