THE SECOND COMING OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST

(Rev 19:11-16)  And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse [Gk: ("light"); white]; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture [Gk: robe, garment] dipped in blood [Gk: whelmed, i.e. to cover wholly with a fluid]: and his name is called The Word [Gk: logos] of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron [symbol of judgment]: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

THE FOUR HORSEMEN OF THE APOCALYPSE

(Not the Lord Jesus Christ and three other horsemen)

(Rev 6:1,2)  And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts [Gk: zoon; a live thing, an animal] [1] saying, Come and see [this is happening now, the present]. And I saw, and behold a white horse [Gk: ("light"); white]: and he that sat on him had a bow [but not “a sharp sword”? Rev 19:15] [2]; and a crown was given unto him [3]: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer [4-8].

1.       Commentary: one of the four “universal” beasts full of eyes symbolic of the keen penetration of the perceptions and intelligence of perfected creatures existent in the universe.

2.       Commentary: he had a bow but no arrows, thus best representing “fear and deception” which is threatening to look upon but empty of action. Satan is a defeated foe.

3.       Commentary: “a crown was given unto him” = the Lord Jesus Christ has “many crowns” (Rev 19:12), none of which were “given” to Him, for He is God. Men are “given” crowns.

4.       Commentary: this man, this false Christ in imitation of Jesus Christ, this imposter, this antichrist went forth conquering (present tense) and to conquer (future tense) by fear and deception for he is a liar as is his father the devil (John 8:44; 1 John 2:22).

5.       (2 Cor 11:13-15)  For such are false apostles [antichrists], deceitful workers, transforming [“be ye transformed” Rom 12:2] themselves [rather than the work of the Holy Spirit: Phil 1:6] into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

6.       (2 Th 2:6-12)  And now ye know what withholdeth that he [the Antichrist] might be revealed in his time. For the mystery of iniquity [Gk: lawlessness, wickedness, unrighteousness] doth already work: only he who now letteth [restrains] will let [restrain], until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

7.       (Mat 24:3-5)  And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

8.       Commentary: Did the opening of this seal reveal “good” or “evil”?

(Rev 6:3,4)  And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see [this is happening now, the present]. And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon [by whom?][1] to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword [in context, a great lie, i.e., “strong delusion”]. [2]

1.       (Rev 13:1-4)  And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast [Gk: therion; a dangerous animal:--venomous, wild beast] [the Wicked Antichrist] rise up out of the sea [symbol of humanity], having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion [David defeated a bear and a lion]: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?

2.       Commentary: Did the opening of this seal reveal “good” or “evil”?

(Rev 6:5-6)  And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see [this is happening now, the present]. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances [balance yokes for weighing] in his hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny [a day’s wages], and three measures of barley for a penny [clearly indicating widespread famine]; and see thou hurt not [take not of] the oil and the wine [1,2].

1.       Commentary: the availability of select luxuries during famine shows that a few will be very rich, but most will be very poor; and the cautionary intimidating warning “see thou hurt not” also implies a large armed force in place willing and capable of backing up the warning. Living conditions will be…?

2.       Commentary: Did the opening of this seal reveal “good” or “evil”?

(Rev 6:7,8)  And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see [this is happening now, the present]. And I looked, and behold a pale horse [Gk: greenish] [like gangrene]: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him [for the unsaved]. [SUMMATION] And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword [the 2nd horse, the red horse, war (effect)], and [kill] with hunger [the 3rd horse, the black horse, famine (effect)], and [kill] with death [the 4th horse, the pale horse, death (effect)], and [kill] with the beasts [Gk: therion; a dangerous animal:--venomous, wild beast] [the wicked antichrists] of the earth [i.e., with the 1st horse of “strong delusion” (cause)].

1.       (Eccl 3:18)  I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them [make apparent to them], and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.

2.       Commentary: Did the opening of this seal reveal “good” or “evil”? Are not all four seals revealing “evil” progressively from onset to completion? The first seal of “strong delusion” (2 Thes 2:11) is the cause, and the three seals which follow illustrate in order the progressive effects.

Amen
