We do not lose at all, but we are being purged, pruned as it were, somewhat painfully in the spirit. The opposing sides in this world war are “black gold” (oil – their power derivative) and Islam (their god) vs. the Holy Spirit (oil – our power derivative) and Christianity (our God). Once again, it is the physical against the spiritual. Today we shall examine the first major battle that biblically symbolizes The Great Tribulation through a plausible synthesis of past, present, and future. THE GREAT TRIBULATION (Judg 6:1-6) And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years. And the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel: and because of the Midianites the children of Israel made them the dens which are in the mountains, and caves, and strong holds. And so it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the children of the east, even they came up against them; And they encamped against them, and destroyed the increase of the earth, till thou come unto Gaza, and left no sustenance for Israel, neither sheep, nor ox, nor ass. For they came up with their cattle and their tents, and they came as grasshoppers for multitude; for both they and their camels were without number: and they entered into the land to destroy it. And Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the LORD. 1. Commentary: the children of Israel had reverted to a syncretistic religion that incorporated, conformed and compromised the principles set forth by God with many of the ways of the Canaanites. As a result, for seven years of increasingly bitter hardship, God allowed the Midianites, the Amalekites, and the tribes of the east (Arabs), to invade and oppress Israel. The Bible specifically names these three groups of ravaging invaders as “Ishmaelites” (Judg 8:24), indicating a common heritage, and purpose. Nelson’s Illustrated Bible Dictionary (p. 518) states “Mohammed claimed Ishmael as his ancestor, as do most Arabs.” a. Dictionary: syncretism = 1. the attempted reconciliation or union of different or opposing principles, practices, or parties, as in philosophy or religion. 2. the merging into one of two or more former categories. b. Ultimate archetypes: Sodom = false doctrine; Gomorrah = false works] c. Smith’s Bible Dictionary: The sons of Ishmael peopled the north and west of the Arabian peninsula, and eventually formed the chief element of the Arab nation, the wandering Bedouin tribes. They are now mostly Mohammedans [Moslems], who took to him as their spiritual father, as the Jews took to Abraham. d. Dictionary: Moslem = 1. pertaining to the Mohammedan religion, law, or civilization. 2. a Mohammedan. /// Also, Muslem, Muslim. [muslim one submitting (i.e. accepting Islam, lit., submission)]. 2. (Gen 16:11,12) And the angel of the LORD said unto her [Hagar], Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael [Heb: God will hear]; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction. And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren. 3. (Gen 17:20,21) And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation. But my covenant will I establish with Isaac [Heb: laughter], which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year. 4. (Gen 21:20,21) And God was with the lad [Ishmael]; and he grew, and dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer. And he dwelt in the wilderness [2x – indicating emphasis: wild-er-ness] of Paran [a desert of Arabia]: and his mother took him a wife out of the land of Egypt 5. Commentary: Symbolically, Egypt is the land of the unsaved, the prison of the land of bondage to Pharaoh (Satan) from which we have been freed by Father God; whereas, please note that Ishmael became bonded to Egypt through marriage, a marriage that stands in direct contrast to our marriage to the Lamb of God. Ishmael was an archer-hunter. The other two named archer-hunters in the Bible were Nimrod who founded the city of Babel (Heb: confusion) later called Babylon (in present day Iraq), and Esau whose name is synonymous with “the flesh.” These three archer-hunters, Nimrod, Ishmael, and Esau still hunt for the souls of men. 6. Commentary: Esau was the eldest son of Isaac. Esau was also the twin brother of Jacob (Heb: heel-catcher: trickster, supplanter) who was destined to later be called Israel (Heb: prince with God), thereby illustrating a type and shadow of a “born-again” man. Esau was the only contender with Jacob for their father Isaac’s inheritance, the covenant of God, which Esau forfeited and scorned for a bowl of warm red pottage (vegetable soup). Esau’s name was immediately thereafter changed to Edom (Heb: red). King Herod (king of the flesh) was of the lineage of Edom. King Herod sought the death of the baby Jesus (King of the Spirit), and slew all the male children of two years old and younger living in and around Bethlehem. 7. (Mark 4:19) And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word [of God], and it becometh unfruitful [i.e., no more born-again Christians]. THE SYNTHESIS (Judg 6:1-6) And the children of Israel [a type of the United States in this prophecy] did evil [rejected God] in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years [a type and shadow of the Great Tribulation]. And the hand of Midian [Heb: quarrel: brawling, contention, discord, strife /// to rule] prevailed against Israel [Heb: prince with God]: and because of the Midianites the children of Israel made them the dens [for hiding] which are in the mountains, and caves [for hiding and defense], and strong holds [for defense]. And so it was, when Israel had sown [seed: ultimately a type and shadow of the Word of God], that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites [Heb: a descendant of Esau], and the children of the east [non-unified Arab tribes], even they came up against them; And they encamped against them [dwelt in semi-fixed positions rather than transitory, indicating intense concentration], and destroyed the increase of the earth [physically of course, and symbolically the fruit of God’s Word, i.e., born-again Christians], till thou come unto Gaza [a place of current warfare between the Hamas faction of Islam and Israel], and left no sustenance [no food and no means of livelihood] for Israel, neither sheep, nor ox, nor ass [these are both food sources, and necessary instruments of support for our livelihood]. For they came up with their cattle [Heb: something bought, i.e. property, but only live stock] and their tents, and they came as grasshoppers [Heb: locusts] [unfeeling toward infidels, and ravenously devouring everything in their path] for multitude [indicating unparalleled latitude in our immigration policy – a benchmark clue]; for both they and their camels [servants and slaves: oil (black gold) buys countless servants and slaves, laborers for hire at all levels of education and ability. This hierarchy best describes a kingdom] were without number [demographically, Moslems have a very high children per family ratio of over 6 to 1 (rapid growth expansion), whereas the United States is breaking even with 2 to 1 (no growth expansion)]: and they entered into [both physical and spiritual connotations: Mark 4:19] the land to destroy it [i.e., they entered into the land with the definite theocratic imperative to utterly destroy “The Great Satan”]. And Israel was greatly impoverished [Heb: made slack or feeble; fig. oppressed:--brought low, dried up, emptied, be not equal, frail, made thin] [in prosperity and in number] because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel [finally] cried unto the LORD [i.e., repented.
