AN EXTREME CASE OF DEMONIC POSSESSION

12-03-23 God is Thought. The brightness of our revelations
depends upon the correctness of our doctrines, our building blocks, our Godly
thoughts laid one upon another, ascending into the mind of Christ. Thought
is a manifestation of “energy” (electricity analogy). These study notes are archived at

POSSESSED WITH THE DEVIL
possessed = Gk:
to be
exercised by a demon: have a (be vexed with, be possessed with) devil (-s) /// a demon or supernatural spirit
(of a bad nature): devil.
possessed =
Dict.: 1. owned. 2. controlled by an emotion [versus logic
(logos)] or as if by an evil spirit; crazed; mad.
(2 Cor 4:3,4) But if our gospel [Gk: good news] be hid [Gk: covered
up /// concealed], it is hid [only] to them that are lost
[Gk: (fated to be) destroyed fully]:
In whom the god [supreme ruler] of this world [i.e., Satan, operating under the
permissive will of Father God] hath
blinded the minds [Gk: the thoughts] of them which believe not [i.e., they cannot see (understand,
comprehend) the glory of Christ], lest [unless] the light [Gk:
illumination /// to shed rays: enlightenment] of the glorious gospel of [Jesus] Christ, who
is the image of God, should shine [Gk:
beam forth /// (send) rays of light]
[i.e., send revelations] unto them.
1.
Commentary: As the “god [supreme ruler] of this world,” Satan exercises
(manipulates, uses for his own ends) all those whom he possesses (syn: controls, dominates, has power over). As
repulsive and offensive the thought may be (to us), all unrepentant
and therefore unsaved sinners are possessed by Satan, and not at all possessed by God.
Unsaved sinners are being guided exclusively by Satan’s thoughts in opposition to being guided by God’s
thoughts. All unsaved
mankind is possessed (controlled) by Satan “the god of this world” and
his devils, i.e., possessed (controlled) by Satan’s unclean thoughts.
AN EXTREME CASE OF SATANIC
POSSESSION
(Mark 5:1-5) And they [Jesus and His disciples] came over unto the other side [connoting “opposition”] of the sea [fig. of humanity], into the
country of the Gadarenes [east of the
river Jordan, i.e., into the wilderness]. And when he [Jesus Christ] was come out of the ship [of life], immediately there met him out of the tombs [of death] a [wild] man with an
unclean [Gk: impure;
demonic: foul] spirit [an evil spirit obedient to Satan’s commands], Who [(the wild man)] had his dwelling [Gk: residence] among the tombs [Gk: remembrances: graves /// memories]; and no man could bind him [control him], no, not with chains [i.e.,
not with extreme bindings]: Because
that he had been often bound
[because that he had been often wild] with fetters [Gk:
shackles for the feet] [i.e., for his “walk”] and chains [i.e., for
his “work”], and the chains had been
plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken
in pieces [manifesting extreme (supernatural,
but not of God) power]: neither
could any man tame him [1]. And always,
night and day, he was in the mountains [high], and in the tombs [low] [i.e., bipolar, dwelling
in the memories of his sins], crying [for relief (forgiveness)], and cutting himself
with stones [2].
1.
tame him
= Dict.: 1. changed [converted] from a wild to a domesticated
state, as animals trained for use by man or as pets. 2. like a
domesticated animal in nature; gentle and easy to control.
2.
(Lev 19:28) Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor
print any marks [Heb: a letter
or other mark branded on the skin] [i.e., tattoos] upon you: I am the LORD. [Lev
21:5]
a.
Commentary: “cutting himself with stones” (i.e., with the Law) in a vain attempt to exorcise
the unclean spirit (his evil memories) from within himself.
i.
exorcise
= Dict.: 1. to drive (an evil spirit or spirits) out or away by ritual prayers,
incantations, etc. 2. to free [one’s self
or others] from such a spirit or spirits.
(Mark 5:6-8) But when he
[finally] saw [Gk: perceived… and understood] Jesus afar
off [Gk: separate (from
himself)], he ran [enthusiastically, excitedly, gladly to
Jesus] and
worshipped him [because the
wild man had already been seeded with knowledge of Jesus Christ, the
wild man got saved], And [the unclean spirit within him] cried with a
loud voice [1], and [the unclean spirit] said, What
have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou
Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment
me not [before my appointed time]
For he [Jesus] said unto him [unto the unclean spirit], Come out of
the man, thou unclean spirit.
1.
(Mark 1:23-26) And [(this passage (example)
was previously mentioned in Mark)] there
was in their synagogue a man with an unclean
spirit [(singular)]; and he [the unclean spirit (singular) dwelling within the man] cried out, Saying, Let us [(plural)] alone; what have we [(plural)] to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to
destroy us [(plural)]? I know thee who
thou art, the Holy One of God. And Jesus rebuked [Gk: (straitly) charged] him [the unclean spirit (plural)],
saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the unclean spirit had torn
[Gk: (through the idea of spasmodic
contractions); to convulse with epilepsy: to rend] him [the man in the
synagogue], and [the
unclean spirit] cried with a loud voice [ref. Mark 5:7], he came
out of him.
a.
Commentary: a spirit consists of a military hierarchy of many lesser spirits
assembled together into a spiritual “strong hold” (2 Cor 10:4,5), sharing a common
purpose and mind-set.
b.
(2 Cor
10:4,5) (For the
weapons of our warfare are
not carnal [Gk:
fleshly],
but mighty
[spiritual]
through God to the pulling down [Gk: demolition; fig. extinction: destruction] of
strong holds
[Gk: forts; castles (fig. arguments)];) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against
the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every
thought [i.e.,
every spirit]
to the obedience of Christ;
(Mark 5:9,10) And he [Jesus] asked him [the unclean spirit], What is thy name? [Gk: a name (lit. or fig.), (authority or character)] [names
are meaningful, a name is to others a handle of power over a
person, even a spirit (Gen 32:27-29)]
And he [the unclean spirit] answered [i.e., obeyed Jesus, thereby submitting his power to Jesus], saying, My
name [(singular)] is Legion [a Roman legion consisted of approximately
6,000 soldiers]: for we are many [ref. Mark 1:23-26 (above)]. And he [the unclean spirit] besought
[pleaded and begged] him [Jesus] much that he would
not send them away out of the country [1].
1.
(Luke
8:31) And they [the Legion] besought [pleaded with] him [Jesus] that he would not command them
to go out into the deep [Gk: depthless, infernal “abyss”: bottomless
pit].
(Mark 5:11-13) Now there was there nigh unto the
mountains [connoting pride] a great herd of swine [unclean
animals (pigs), fig. unclean (unsaved) people] feeding [upon “the
husks (the empty seed pods) that the swine did eat” Luke 15:16]. And all the [unclean spirits, but now openly identified
as] devils
[(plural)] besought him [pleaded with
Jesus], saying, Send us into the [unclean] swine [fig. unsaved
people], that we may enter into
them [i.e., enter into their thoughts
(minds)]. And
forthwith Jesus gave them leave [Gk: allowed: permitted, suffered (them)] [i.e. “gave them
leave” instead of “send” (sent)].
And the unclean spirits went out
[of the wild man], and entered
into the swine: and the [“great”] herd [now under the control of unclean spirits] ran violently [1] down a steep place
[an additional worldly advantage for the
deadly purpose of all unclean spirits] into the sea [of
humanity], (they were about two
thousand;) [2] and were choked [Gk: throttled or strangled (drowned)] in the sea [to the ending, extinction, of their unsaved lives].
1.
Commentary: “ran violently” = No man or animal wants to be compelled to die. In a life or death battle for control, the unsaved swine (fig. unsaved people) “ran violently” in confusion, to their deaths. Confusion greatly weakens, e.g.,
“and the LORD set every
man’s sword against his fellow” (Judg 7:22). The opposition
of the swine seeking to escape the unclean spirits was much weaker than the opposition of
the wild man who also “ran,” but gladly
to Jesus.
The wild man had a far stronger (although very little) understanding of the
word of God than the swine who had no
understanding at all, for the wild man had eaten “seed” of the word of God thereby
enabling him to “Resist the devil” to a much greater degree, whereas the swine
had eaten only the empty seed pods
(husks) of the word of God and thus remained eternally possessed.
2.
Commentary: “about two thousand” = within the context of “a great herd” this numerical phrase
is almost completely unnecessary, “window
dressing” at best. Then why has God placed that particular number of 2,000 in
this highly significant location? Perhaps
that phrase is prophetically indicating “about
two thousand” years from
then until judgment
(“choked in the sea”), i.e., “about”
even now. As causative violence is increasing exponentially, this entire world is being rapidly driven “down a steep place” that inevitably will arrive at
“termination.”
(Mark 5:14-20) And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country [1].
And they [the hearers but not “doers
of the word… deceiving your own selves” James 1:22] went out to see what it was that was done. And they come to
Jesus, and see him [the formerly
wild man] that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed [domesticated, tamed], and in his right mind [i.e. “he came to himself” Luke 15:17]: and they [being unsaved and themselves possessed (infested) with unclean
spirits] were afraid [of the gospel of Jesus Christ (John 1:14)]. And they that saw it [the eye
witnesses that fed the swine] told
them how it befell [Gk: caused
to be] to him [to the wild man whom they each knew
and spiritually identified with] that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine [that
died. (As the swine died, the unclean spirits dwelling within them, by
default (having no place else to go) were instantly cast into the “abyss.”)]. And they began to [very earnestly] pray him [Jesus Christ] to depart [to separate from them]
out of their coasts [i.e.,
this separation, in preparation for His appearance, is happening now,
worldwide] [2]. And when he [Jesus Christ] was come into the
[wooden] ship [3],
he that had been possessed with the devil [earnestly] prayed [to] him [to Jesus Christ] that he might be with [Gk: accompany] him [to go with Jesus Christ who was no longer “afar
off”]. Howbeit Jesus suffered him
not [allowed him not, with
compassion], but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, [Evangelize] and tell them
how great things the
Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion [Gk: divine grace: mercy] on thee.
And he [the formerly possessed wild
man who was now “in his right mind,” domesticated (tamed), and at
peace] departed, and began to
publish [Gk: to herald (as a
public crier), the divine truth (the gospel): preach, proclaim] in Decapolis [Gk: the ten city region] how
great things Jesus
had done for him: and all men
did marvel.
1.
(Matt
24:14) And this gospel of the kingdom shall
be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
2.
(Matt 25:31,32) When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with
him, then shall he sit upon the throne [the church, the ark of the covenant] of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations:
and he shall separate them one from another, as a
shepherd divideth his
sheep from the goats:
3.
Commentary: “come into the [wooden] ship” = trees (wood, i.e., planks, boards) biblically symbolize
mankind (Psa 1:1-3), the building
(noun and verb) material of God. This phrase represents our Lord’s second
coming (ref. Mark 5:2 for figuratively, His first coming). Symbolically, this
is Jesus Christ’s second coming into the church (ship), seated upon the throne “above”
the mercy seat, “above” the sea of humanity, “above”
the wooden ark of the covenant (Exo 25:22; 40:20), ref. also to Noah’s archetype
wooden ark “above”
the sea of humanity.
THE REALLY GOOD NEWS
ABOUT EXTREME SATANIC POSSESSION
(1 Cor 10:13) There hath no temptation [no test, or trial] taken [Gk: gotten
hold of; seized: caught] you [i.e., possessing you] but such as is common to man: but God is
faithful, who will not suffer [Gk: to let be, (not) permit]
[not allow] you to be tempted [Gk:
tested] above
that [more than] ye are able [to endure]; but will with the temptation also make a
way to escape, that ye may be able to bear [Gk: endure] it [endure the temptation,
trail, test, i.e., endure tribulations].
1.
Commentary: Please note that according
to Scripture, Father God, who is faithful (to
you), will always
provide for you a way to escape from
your temptations (trials, testing, tribulations), through salvation, as clearly
exemplified by the extreme wild man who escaped the “tombs” to become
a redeemed “tamed”
man, saved and going forth to evangelize. Another
vitally important revelation that we may receive from this most extreme example
of demonic possession is that it is therefore quite impossible for anyone to be 100% totally possessed by Satan because a possessed person always retains the God given ability to choose or not choose to embark upon
the path of the God
provided way to escape. Therefore Jesus taught “he that endureth to the end shall be saved”
(Matt 10:22).
