THE
GREAT TRIBULATION IS ORDAINED FOR OUR FINAL PURIFICATION
(Zech
13:7-9)
Awake,
O sword [of cleansing,
symbolically the double-edged
logos/rhema Word of God], against my shepherd [Heb:
pastor]
[typified by Jesus Christ], and against the man that is
my fellow
[Heb: associate; comrade] [professing
Christian],
saith the LORD of hosts: smite [Heb:
strike (lightly or severely): kill, wound] the
shepherd, and the sheep [Heb:
flock] [the congregation] shall be
scattered [Heb:
dispersed: spread abroad]: and I will turn mine hand [Heb:
power] [for good] upon the little
ones
[new converts]. And it shall come to pass, that in all the
land,
saith the LORD, two parts therein [of the existing
congregation] shall
be cut off and die; but the third [part of the existing
congregation] shall be left [Heb: remain] therein. And
I will bring the third part through the fire [1], and will refine
[Heb:
to fuse (metal), refine: melt] them as silver
[symbolically sheep, enlisted military men] is refined,
and will try
them [Heb: test (especially metals); investigate: examine]
as gold
[symbolically
shepherds, commissioned military officers] is
tried [2]: they [“the third part” (true
believing
Christians)] shall call on my name, and
I will
hear them: I will say, It is my people:
and they shall say, The LORD is my God.
1.
(Jer
23:29) Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that
breaketh the
rock in pieces?
2.
(Dan
12:10) Many shall be purified
[a], and made white [innocent
(forgiven)], and tried [Heb:
to
fuse (metal), refine: melted]; but the wicked [Heb:
morally wrong: condemned, guilty, ungodly] shall do wickedly:
and none
of the wicked shall understand; but the
wise
shall understand.
a.
purified
= Heb: to clarify
(brighten), examined, selected: made bright, chosen, cleansed,
polished,
purged.
AND
THEN YOU SHALL BE “CAUGHT UP”
(Dan
12:1-3)
And at that time [“of the end” Amplif.] shall Michael [the archangel (the
head of a
spiritual military organization); “one of the chief princes”
Dan 10:13]
stand up [activate, (be) set in motion], the great
prince which
standeth for [represents, spiritually embodies] [“who defends
and has charge of” Amplif.] the children of thy people:
and there
shall be a time of trouble [Heb: tribulation], such as never was [i.e.,
thermo-nuclear war] since
there was a nation even to that same time: and
at
that time thy people shall be delivered [Heb:
escape;
(be) released, rescued: saved], every one that shall be
found
written in the book [of Life]. And many of
them that
sleep [are dead] in the dust of the earth shall
awake, some
to everlasting life [happiness and joy], and some
to shame
and everlasting contempt [Heb: repulsiveness] [syn:
revoltingness,
hideousness, repugnance, foulness, abhorrence, vileness, grossness,
offensiveness]. And they that be
wise [Heb: circumspect (thoughtful)
and hence intelligent: (who) consider] shall
shine [Heb: gleam; fig. enlighten: admonish, teach, warn]
as
the brightness [Heb: brilliancy] of the firmament [Heb:
the visible arch of the sky]; and they that turn
many to righteousness [“to
uprightness and right standing with God” Amplif.] [moral cleanliness]
as the stars [Heb: rolling,
blazing; fig. a
prince] [the angels] for ever and
ever.
(Dan
12:4-7)
But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run
to and
fro, and knowledge [“of God’s purposes as revealed by
His
prophets” Amplif.] shall be increased. Then I
Daniel looked [Heb:
(a) vision], and, behold, there stood other two [angels],
the one on this side of the bank of the river [of Life,
i.e., the
Holy Spirit], and the other on that side of the bank of the
river. And one said to the man clothed
in linen
[a type and shadow of Jesus Christ], which was upon [symbolically
dominating (reigning over)] the waters of the river, How
long shall
it be to the end of these
wonders? And
I heard the man clothed in linen [Heb:
(in the sense of divided fibers); flaxen thread or yarn]
[perhaps
indicating order], which was upon the waters of the
river, when
he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by
him that
liveth for ever that it shall be for a
time, times,
and an half [“or three and one-half years” Amplif.];
and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the
holy
people, [then] all
these things
shall be finished.
1.
(Jer
30:7-9) Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like
it: it is even the time of Jacob's
trouble [Heb: tribulation];
but he shall be saved [Heb: safe: rescued] out of it. For it shall come to pass
in that
day, saith the LORD of hosts, that I will break his
[Satan’s] yoke
from off thy neck, and will burst thy bonds, and strangers
shall no
more serve themselves of him: But
they shall serve
the LORD their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto
them.
2.
(Rom
11:26,27) And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is
written, There
shall come out of Sion the Deliverer [Jesus Christ], and
shall turn
away ungodliness from Jacob: For this is my covenant [agreement,
contract] unto them, when I shall
take away
their sins.
3.
(Isa
59:20,21) And the Redeemer [Jesus
Christ] shall come to Zion, and unto
them that [willingly]
turn from
transgression [Heb: sin]
in Jacob,
saith the LORD. As for me, this is my
covenant
[agreement, contract] with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor
out of the
mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed's seed,
saith
the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.
THE
END
(Dan
12:8-13)
And I [Daniel] heard, but I understood not: then
said I, O
my Lord, what shall be the end of these things? And he
said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the
words are closed up and
sealed till the time of the end. Many
shall be purified [Heb: made bright: chosen, cleansed,
purged],
and made white [innocent], and tried [Heb:
to fuse (metal), refined: melted, purified]; but the wicked
[Heb:
morally wrong; bad person: condemned, ungodly] shall do
wickedly:
and none of the wicked shall understand;
but the wise shall understand. And
from the time
that the daily sacrifice [i.e., church attendance]
shall
be taken away, and the abomination [1] that
maketh desolate
[2] [“the abomination of desolation” Matt 24:15;
Mark
13:14] set up [established, instituted,
inaugurated],
there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days [43
months]. Blessed
is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five
and
thirty days [44.5 months]. But
go
thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot [in
your assigned
position] at the end of the days.
1.
abomination
= Heb: disgusting,
filthy; especially idolatrous: destestable (thing).
2.
desolate
= Heb: to stun (grow
numb), devastate or fig. stupefy: be destitute, destroy
(self),
waste.
Amen
