THE OLD TESTAMENT

(2 Kings 6:1-3) And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us. Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye. And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go.

(2 Kings 6:1-3) And the sons of the prophets [Heb: men inspired (by God)] [from one of the schools of the prophets (like Bethel and Jericho (2 Kings 2:3,5)] said unto Elisha [their teacher, a type and shadow of Jesus Christ], Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too strait [Heb: tight, narrow: small] [i.e., worldly versus infinite, in a spiritual sense] for us [1]Let us go [proceed, step by step (class by class, grade by grade)], we pray thee, unto [the river] Jordan [Heb: (the) descender] [a type and shadow of the Holy Spirit; separating the wilderness from the Promised Land (Israel), separating the wild people from the properly trained domesticated people (servants and friends), i.e., Let us mature, come closer to the Holy Spirit] [2], and take thence [Heb: there] [take understanding to ourselves and become] every  man a beam [Heb: a (wooden) rafter] [a fashioned (taught) instrument of God, that serves to support the roof (covering), the Christ of the Kingdom of Heaven/God], and let us make us a place [Heb: a standing, a spot; fig. a condition (of body or mind)] [in our thoughts] there [with the Holy Spirit], where we may dwell [Heb: to sit down (spec. as judge); remain, settle: marry] [i.e., become “one” again with the Holy Spirit]. And he [Elisha] answered, Go ye. And one said, Be content [pleased, satisfied, happy] I pray thee, and go with thy servants [Heb: bonded men]. And he answered, I will go

1.    (1 Cor 6:2,3) Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world [Gk: kosmos; “cosmos” (universe)]? and if the world [universe] shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? Know ye not that we shall judge [bad, evil, fallen eternally unrestored] angels [Gk: messengers (messages)]? how much more things that pertain to this life

2.    (Prov 22:6) Train up [educate] a child in the way [Heb: road (as trodden); fig. a course of life or mode of action: path] he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

(2 Kings 6:4-7) So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood. But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed. And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim. Therefore said he, Take it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it.

(2 Kings 6:4-7) So he [Elisha (Jesus Christ)] went with them [with his students, disciples]. And when they came to [the river] Jordan, they cut down [in the sense of humbled] wood [Heb: trees] [1]. But as one was felling a beam, the axe head [Jesus Christ] fell into the water [a prophecy of the death of Jesus Christ who died for the man (us)]: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed [and now separated from me]. And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he [the plaintive man] shewed him [Elisha] the place. And he [the man of God] cut down a stick [Heb: a tree], and cast it [the stick, i.e., himself (a type of Jonah 1:12,15)] in thither [into the water of the Holy Spirit]; and the iron [symbol of judgment] did swim [(was resurrected), rose up to the top of the water, and attached Himself to the stick (the man), forming a cross (the axe in look and function)]. Therefore said he [Elisha (Jesus Christ)], Take it up to thee. And he put out [extended] his hand [2], and took it [Heb: received it] [3]

1.    (Psa 1:1-3) Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight [happiness, joy] is in the law of the LORD [i.e., in the Bible]; and in his law [Bible] doth he meditate [Heb: ponder (think): study] day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted [Heb: transplanted] [from where??] by the rivers of water [the Holy Spirit], that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf [covering] also shall not wither [Heb: fall away, faint; fig. be foolish or morally wicked]; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper [Heb: be good, be profitable] [for who??]

2.    (2 Tim 2:15) Study [Gk: to make an effort, be earnest: labor] to shew [Gk: exhibit] thyself approved unto God, a workman [Gk: a toiler; fig. a teacher] that needeth not to be ashamed [embarrassed, mortified], rightly dividing [Gk: make a straight cut; fig. to dissect (expound) correctly (the devine message)] [as a surgeon with a sharp scalpel] the word [Gk: logos; something said (including the thought)] [the seed] of truth.

a.     (Luke 8:11) Now the parable is this: The seed is the word [Gk: logos; something said (including the thought)] of God.

3.    (Luke 9:23-25) And he [Jesus Christ] said to them all, If any man will come after [Gk: follow] me, let him deny himself [i.e., deny the “cares and riches and pleasures of this life” Luke 8:14], and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake [i.e., will deny his worldly life for Me, i.e., “present your bodies a living sacrifice” Rom 12:1], the same shall save it. For what is a man advantaged [Gk: benefited: profited], if he [temporarily] gain the whole world [Gk: “cosmos” (universe)], and lose himself [Gk: be destroyed fully], or be cast away [from God (from eternal Love)]

THE NEW TESTAMENT

(Matt 3:10-12) And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

(Matt 3:10-12) And now also the axe [Jesus Christ, the carpenter who is the cutting iron head attached (bound, bonded) to the wooden stick (man-servant)] is laid unto the root of the trees [separating the earth-bound root from the heaven-bound tree]: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit [but instead bringeth forth bad (evil) fruit] is hewn down, and cast into the fire. I [John the Baptist] indeed baptize [Gk: to make whelmed (fully wet): wash] you with [cleansing] water [1] unto repentance [Gk: regret for guilt /// to think differently, reconsider]: but he [Jesus Christ] that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize [Gk: to make whelmed (fully wet): wash] you with the Holy Ghost [at Christ’s first coming, for salvation], and with fire [at Christ’s second coming, for purification]: Whose fan [Gk: a winnowing fork] is in his hand [Gk: power], and he will throughly purge [Gk: cleanse perfectly, (specif. winnow)] his floor [Gk: a threshing floor (as rolled hard)] [i.e., this earth], and gather [Gk: to lead together: assemble] his wheat into the garner [Gk: barn] [a wooden (trees, men) structure, a type of church, “the tabernacle of God” (Rev 21:3) built-up of priest-boards]; but he will burn up [Gk: consume wholly] the chaff [Dict.: the husks of wheat or other grain separated in threshing or winnowing] with unquenchable fire [manifested as thermo-nuclear war]

(Eph 5:25-28) Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify [Gk: to make holy; purify] and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word [Gk: rhema; revelations] [a type of baptism], That he might present it [the Bride, i.e., us] to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself [for “they two shall be one flesh” Eph 5:31]

Amen
