FISHING FOR FISHERMEN

God is Thought. The brightness of our revelations depends upon the correctness of our doctrines,

our building blocks, our Godly Thoughts laid one upon another, ascending into the mind of Christ.

(Luke 5:1,2)  And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him [Jesus Christ] to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret [Heb: harp-shaped] [another name for the Sea of Galilee], And saw two ships [symbolizing the Old Testament and the New Testament] standing by [i.e., waiting by] the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets [fig., their doctrines used to catch fish].

1.     (Eph 5:26)  That he might sanctify and cleanse it [the church, i.e., congregational doctrines] with the washing of water by the word [of God], [doctrines = Dict: something taught; teachings]

(Luke 5:3)  And he entered into one of the ships [i.e., the New Testament], which was Simon's [Heb: hearing], and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land [and into shallow water]. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship [out of the New Testament which was supported by the water of the Holy Spirit].

(Luke 5:4-7)  Now when he had left [ceased] speaking [to the people], he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep [Gk: profound, mystery: depth] [i.e., deeper into the Holy Spirit], and let down your nets [your doctrines] for a draught [Gk: a catching (of fish)]. And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word [Gk: rhema] I will let down the net. And when they [Simon and Andrew] had this done [in disobedience], they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake [Gk: to tear asunder]. And they beckoned unto their partners [James and John representing the Old Testament], which were in the other ship, that they [as Messianic Jews (prophecy)] should come and help them. And they came, and [in obedience] filled both the ships [(prophesy)], so that they began to sink.

(Luke 5:8-11)  When Simon [Heb: hearing] Peter [Gk: a (piece of) rock] saw it, [(converted)] he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying [a confession], Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord [just previously saying “Master” v.5, thereby illustrating (revealing) his instant change of heart]. For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught [Gk: catch] of the fishes which they had taken: And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch [Gk: to take alive (make a prisoner of war), capture] men. And when they had brought their ships to land, they [the fishermen] forsook all, and followed him.

CALLING ALL FISHERMEN

(Luk 6:46-49)  And why call ye me [Jesus Christ], Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?  Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them [obediently], I will shew you [Gk: exemplify (instruct, admonish: (fore-) warn] to whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house [fig. a dwelling place for the thoughts of God in the man’s mind], and digged deep [Gk: profound (as going down)] [with much effort into the thoughts of God], and laid the foundation [Gk: the substructure of a building] on a rock [Gk: a (mass of) rock] [1]: and when [(not if but definite)] the flood arose [Gk: (came into being)], the stream [Gk: current, running water] [the Holy Spirit] beat vehemently [Dict: acting or moving with great force] [i.e., in judgment] upon that house [the compact mass of Godly thoughts], and could not shake it [Gk: waver, topple, destroy] [nor “brake” it]: for it [the compact mass of Godly thoughts, i.e., the spirit] was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth not [2], is like a man that without a foundation [Gk: the substructure of a building] built an house upon the earth [not on the Bible]; against which the stream [Gk: current, running water] [the Holy Spirit] did beat vehemently [Dict: acting with great force] [i.e., in judgment], and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great [beyond conceivable measure].

1.     (Psa 95:1)  O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.

a.      (John 1:14)  And the Word [of God, the Bible] was made flesh [in Jesus Christ], and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. [Jesus Christ, the Bible, is “the rock” of our salvation]

2.     (James 1:21,22) Wherefore lay apart [separate from yourself] all filthiness and superfluity [Gk: superabundance] of naughtiness [Gk: badness, depravity: evil], and receive with meekness [Gk: humility] the engrafted [Gk: implanted] word [Gk: logos], which is able to save your souls. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving [Gk: deluding: beguiling] your own selves.
