THE SIGN IS THE ANSWER

08-11-13

(Ezek 24:24)  Thus Ezekiel is unto you a sign:

according to all that he hath done shall ye do: and when this cometh, ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.

(Mark 13:1,2)  And as he [Jesus Christ] went out of the temple [“departed from the temple” Mat 24:1], one of his disciples saith unto him, Master [Gk: teacher], see what manner [Gk: of what possible sort] of stones and what buildings [Gk: structures] are here! And Jesus answering said unto him, Seest thou these great  buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down [Gk: disintegrated, demolished: destroyed, dissolved, overthrown].

1.      (Luke 21:5,6)  And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned [Gk: decorated, trimmed] with goodly [Gk: beautiful, valuable or virtuous: worthy] stones and gifts [Gk: votive offerings], he said, As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in the which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

2.      (1 Pet 2:5)  Ye also, as lively [Gk: living, quick] stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy  priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable [Gk: well-received, i.e. approved, favorable] to God by Jesus Christ.

3.      (1 Sam 17:40)  And he took his staff [always the shepherd] in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones [the “Hand Ministry” of Eph 4:11,12] out of the brook [the running, also abrasive and acidic, water of the Holy Spirit], and put them in a shepherd's bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand [the “Hand Ministry”]: and he drew near to the Philistine [Heb: rolling, migratory /// to roll (in dust): roll (wallow) self].

a.      scrip = Heb: a travelling pouch (as if for gleanings) /// to pick up, i.e. (gen.) to gather; spec. to glean:--gather (up), glean.

4.      Commentary: “sling” = a sling employs the circular “wheel” power of the Holy Spirit. The first biblical mention of “wagons” (Gen 45:19-21) illustrates the supernatural power of the unmentioned and therefore invisible “wheels” by performing a type and shadow of “the rapture.”

a.      wagon = Heb: something revolving, i.e. a wheeled vehicle:--cart, chariot, wagon /// to revolve, circular:--round.

5.      (Gen 45:19-21)  [Pharaoh said unto Joseph] Now thou art commanded, this do ye; take you wagons [first biblical mention] [vessels, carriers, boxes resembling the ark (Heb: box, chest, coffin) of the covenant] out of the land of Egypt for your little ones, and for your wives, and bring your father [from Canaan], and come. Also regard not your stuff; for the good of all the land of Egypt is yours. And the children of Israel did so: and Joseph gave them wagons, according to the commandment of Pharaoh, and gave them provision [Heb: food] for the way.

(Mark 13:3,4)  And as he [Jesus Christ] sat upon the mount of Olives [expressing authority over persons (fruit) that walked in His will] over against [Gk: directly opposite] the temple [expressing opposition to persons (not fruit) that walked not in His will], Peter and James and John and Andrew [four fishermen] asked him privately [i.e., separated from the unbelieving multitude], Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign [“of thy coming, and the end of the world” Mat 24:3] when all these things shall be fulfilled [Gk: completed entirely, executed]?

1.      (Mat 24:3)  And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

2.      olive = Heb: an olive (as yielding illuminating oil), the tree, the branch or the berry: olive (tree, -yard).

3.      Commentary: “he sat upon the mount of Olives” = Olives symbolize saved, born-again, regenerated, imputed for righteousness persons as fruit for the Lord. Ancients intent upon teaching commonly sat down upon something which was then regarded in that culture as a position of authority, and as a platform from which to teach. Hence, Jesus Christ sat upon the mount of Olives which represented the amassed mountain of assembled believers in the world and taught them, apart from the unbelievers.

4.      sign = Gk: indication: miracle, token, wonder.

THE SIGN

(Mat 12:39,40)  But he [Jesus] answered and said unto them [the scribes and Pharisees], An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign [Gk: miracle]; and there shall no sign [Gk: miracle] be given to it, but [except] the sign [Gk: miracle] of the prophet Jonah: For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart [anthropomorphism] of the earth [“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground” Gen 2:7].

1.      Commentary: These verses clearly identify Jonah’s experience of being “three days and three nights in the whale’s belly” to be a foreshadowing, or more specifically, a type and shadow (an incremental prophecy) of the three day/night experience of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Therefore “the sign” of Jesus Christ’s second coming is the born-again second birth experience (see also Mat 16:4; Luke 11:29) soon to be “revealed in us” (Rom 8:18) to all the world, soon to be “glorified in his saintsadmired in all them that believe” (2 Thes 1:10), “That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him” (2 Thes 1:12).

THE END

Commentary: Like an actual physical sign posted along the roadside, the born-again experience is an invisible spiritual “sign” that is being continously repeated 24/7, like popping pop-corn, as countless people continuously get saved throughout the world; bright stars suddenly manifesting in the darkness that is “upon the face of the deep” (Gen 1:2).  It is “an awakening” for all the people (saved and unsaved) to note (“every eye shall see him” Rev 1:7), a distinctive act of birth each and every time it occurs throughout the world, while signifying and heralding His second coming, and the end of this world as we now know it. Having answered the disciples as to “what shall be [rather than “is”] the sign of thy coming,” the remaining question of the disciples then becomes “When is the end?” Well of that we cannot know until it happens, but we can readily see the plentiful “signs” (salvations) heralding its coming, and we can know in our hearts that Jesus Christ is swiftly materializing His majestic manifestation “in us.” This spiritual manifestation is biblically illustrated in a supernatural action that was typified (types and shadows) by the burning torches (flames of fire) of Gideon’s 300 warriors that were quite suddenly and surprisingly exposed to the opposing Midianite host. When we have become fully crafted into the image of God (Gen 1:26,27) with the full mind of Christ, then shall be “the end,” and THE BEGINNING again for us. Praise God. Thank you Lord. J

1.      (Isa 37:31)  And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward:

Amen
