(Judg 6:25)  And it came to pass the same night [of his salvation], that the LORD said unto him, Take thy father's young bullock, even the second bullock [symbol of fertility, and power in work: the second work of the Lord - judgment] of seven years old, and throw down [destroy: beat down, pluck down, pull down, ruin, X utterly] the altar of Baal that thy father hath [i.e. the apostasy of the church: perverted  doctrine (Sodom), perverted works (Gomorrah)], and cut down [to cut (off, down or asunder); destroy, X utterly] the grove [Asherah, Astarte, Ashtoreth] that is by it [idolatry: the worship of other gods]:

AND BUILD AN ALTAR OF SACRIFICE

(Judg 6:26)  And build an altar [a type of the brazen altar of sacrifice] unto the LORD thy God upon the top [head] of this rock [fortified place, stronghold (i.e. “the altar of Baal”)], in the ordered place, and take the second bullock, and offer a burnt sacrifice with the wood of the grove which thou shalt cut down [ME?? – Yup, you,  and me too].

1.       “and offer a burnt sacrifice” = An innocent animal sacrifice of a bull (fertility, and power in work) “of seven years old” (complete, mature, full, huios vs. teknon) dedicated wholly to the Lord, representing men who are wholly dedicated to the Lord, i.e. walking in the fullness of the Holy Spirit – the second anointing, having symbolically and physically presented (offered) their “bodies a living sacrifice” (Rom 12:1).

2.       “with the wood of the grove” = Herein, the fate of the Midianite host is symbolically identified with and foreshadowed by “the wood of the grove.” What is their fate?

THE OLD TESTAMENT CROSS: THE ALTAR OF BURNT OFFERING

A PICTURE OF DAMNATION AND SALVATION

(Exo 27:1-8)  And thou shalt make an altar of shittim wood, five cubits long [10’], and five cubits broad [10’]; the altar shall be foursquare: and the height thereof shall be three cubits [6’]. And thou shalt make the horns [fig. power] of it upon the four corners thereof: his horns shall be of the same [shittim wood]: and thou shalt overlay it with brass. And thou shalt make his pans to receive his ashes, and his shovels, and his basins, and his fleshhooks, and his firepans: all the vessels thereof thou shalt make of brass. And thou shalt make for it a grate of network of brass; and upon the net [a net (as catching animals)] shalt thou make four brazen rings in the four corners thereof. And thou shalt put it under the compass [rim] of the altar beneath, that the net may be even to the midst [middle] of the altar. And thou shalt make staves for the altar, staves of shittim wood, and overlay them with brass. And the staves shall be put into the rings, and the staves shall be upon the two sides of the altar, to bear it. Hollow with boards shalt thou make it: as it was showed thee in the mount, so shall they make it.

1.       “thou shalt make an atar” = The brazen altar declared that entry into the presence of God must be preceded by sacrificial atonement for sin [cover; expiate, cancel: cleanse, forgive, pardon, reconcile].

2.       shittim = Heb: acacia trees [grove]; Shittim, a place E. of the Jordan /// the acacia (from its scourging thorns) /// (prop. to pierce) to flog; a goad: scourge /// a lash: scourge, whip.

3.       acacia = Dict: A large thorny hard-grained tree with rough gnarled bark. Acacia or shittim wood was used to build the tabernacle.

4.       brass = Heb: copper; i.e. coin, a fetter; fig. base (as compared with gold or silver): brasen, brazen, brass, chain, fetter (of brass), filthiness, steel.

5.       network = The work of the cross, God’s Word effecting judgment: Isa 28:5-14; Mat 13:47-50; ref. our chapter 8. Refer also to the “work” of the gate, door, veil, and ten linen curtains.

6.       rings = Heb: a seal (as sunk into the wax – something hard softened by the heat), i.e. signet (for sealing); hence (gen.) a ring of any kind /// to sink: drown, fasten, settle, sink.

7.       staves = Heb: separation; by impl. a part of the body, branch of a tree, bar for carrying; fig. chief of a city; espec. apart, only, besides: alone, by self, staff, strength /// divide, be solitary.

8.       sides = Heb: 6763. tsela'; a rib (as curved), lit. (of the body) or fig. (of a door, i.e. leaf); hence a side, lit. (of a person) or fig. (of an object or the sky, i.e. quarter); timber or plank: beem, board, chamber, corner, leaf, plank, rib, side (chamber).

9.       (Rom 8:1,2)  There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus [i.e. the anointed man] hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

10.   (Rom 12:1,2)  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present [i.e. offer, as a present] your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed [to the same pattern: fashion self according to] to this world [aion; toward Hell]: but be ye transformed [metamorphosed; changed, transfigured] by the renewing [renovation /// restoration] of your mind [toward Heaven], that ye may prove [discern] what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

11.   (Mark 5:15)  And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind [mentally restored – i.e. born-again]: and they were afraid.

12.   (Luke 15:17)  And when he came to himself [became mentally restored, i.e. born-again], he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!

  A SACRIFICIAL PRESENT

(Lev 1:1-9)  And the LORD called unto Moses, and spake unto him out of the tabernacle of the congregation [the Body], saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, If any man of you bring an offering [a sacrificial present] unto the LORD, ye shall bring your offering of the cattle, even of the herd, and of the flock [as a substitute for his own self]. If his offering be a burnt sacrifice [wholly dedicated to the Lord] of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish: he shall offer it of his own voluntary will at the door [gate] of the tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD. And he shall put his hand upon the head of the burnt offering; and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement [to cover; expiate, placate or cancel: cleanse, forgive, pardon, reconcile] for him. And he shall kill the bullock before the LORD: and the priests, Aaron's sons, shall bring the blood, and sprinkle the blood round about upon the altar that is by the door [gate] of the tabernacle of the congregation. And he shall flay the burnt offering, and cut it into his pieces. And the sons of Aaron the priest shall put fire upon the altar, and lay the wood in order upon the fire: And the priests, Aaron's sons, shall lay the parts, the head, and the fat, in order upon the wood that is on the fire which is upon the altar: But his inwards and his legs shall he wash in water: and the priest shall burn all on the altar, to be a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.

1.       (Isa 9:19)  Through the wrath of the LORD of hosts is the land darkened [happening now, i.e. the Midianite host], and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire: no man shall spare [have compassion on] his brother.

2.       (Ezek 15:6,7)  Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; As the vine tree among the trees [wood] of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem [the apostatized church, i.e. professing Christians]. And I will set my face against them; they shall go out from one fire, and another fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I set my face against them.

3.       (Ezek 21:32)  Thou [who are not born-again] shalt be for fuel to the fire; thy blood shall be in the midst of the land; thou shalt be no more remembered: for I the LORD have spoken it.

4.       (Zec 12:6)  In that day [the Day of the Lord] will I make the governors of Judah [shepherds] like an hearth [pulpit] of fire among the wood, and like a torch of fire in a sheaf [of tares “to burn them” Mat 13:30]; and they shall devour all the people round about, on the right hand and on the left [Psa 91:7]: and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, even in Jerusalem.

The Beautiful Light is being “taken out of the way” (2 Thes 2:7), and in its place “strong delusion” (2 Thes 2:11; Mat 24:24; Rev 6:2; Rev 13:11-17) is prevailing. The spreading blanket of Darkness (vs. Light) of the Midianite host has “entered into the land to destroy it” (Judg 6:5), i.e. to cover the land and smother it with darkness, to choke it (Mark 4:19). This present darkness is being led by the counterfeit false anointing.

Amen
