TRUST GOD AND LIVE03-06-11 THE GODLY MAN AND THE UNGODLY MAN(Psa 1:1-6) Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel [Heb: advice] of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way [Heb: a road (as trodden); fig. a course of life or mode of action] of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful [Heb: to scoff: have in derision, mock]. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate [Heb: ponder: speak, study, talk, utter] day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff [Heb: as threshed loose] which the wind driveth away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners [sit] in the congregation of the righteous. For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
A PSALM OF PROPHECY(Psa 91:1-4) He that dwelleth [Heb: abides, remains, continues] in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge [Heb: shelter] and my fortress [Heb: castle, strong hold]: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare [Heb: net] of the fowler [a hunter of birds], and from the noisome [Heb: perverse, wicked] pestilence [Heb: plague]. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
(Psa 91:5,6) Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence [Heb: plague] that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. 1. (Psa 34:7) The angel of the LORD encampeth [Heb: dwell] round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.
(Psa 91:7,8) A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. 1. (Zec 14:12) And this shall be the plague [Heb: pestilence] wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away [Heb: to melt; fig. to flow: dissolve] while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth [i.e., the plague of nuclear warfare].
(Psa 91:9-13) Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge [Heb: shelter], even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge [Heb: command] over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone [i.e., stumble]. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. 1. (Gen 19:15,16) And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity [Heb: sin] of the city. And while he lingered [Heb: to question or hesitate, i.e. (by impl.) to be reluctant:--delay, linger, stay selves, tarry], the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful [Heb: pity] unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city [of Sodom].
(Psa 91:14-16) Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble [Heb: tribulation]; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation. 1. (Deu 4:30,31) When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou turn to the LORD thy God, and shalt be obedient unto his voice; (For the LORD thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.
Amen
