But let every man take heed [work carefully and diligently for truth, accuracy, and precision] how he buildeth thereupon. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 1. (Isa 28:16) Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste. EVERY MAN’S WORK (1 Cor 3:12-15) Now if any man build [labor] upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble [good and evil, arranged from the greatest to the least, respectively by group]; Every man's work shall be made manifest [shining, apparent; public /// to lighten: be seen, shine /// luminousness: fire, light]: for the day [of reckoning, of the Lord’s return] shall declare it, because it shall be revealed [to take off the cover, i.e. disclosed] by fire [judgment]; and the fire shall try [test: examine (test and critically appraise the character and worth of)] every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide [remains (if any product of his efforts whatever survives this test)] which he hath built thereupon [the foundation of Jesus Christ], he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned [under this test, fiery examination], he shall suffer loss [of what was burned, thereby losing his reward]: but he himself shall be saved [why?]; yet so as by fire [but only as one who has passed through the fire]. 1.
